Historical Trauma and the Impact on the African American Psyche (Part 1)

Part 1 of 2 Sessions

This course focuses on working with African Americans in a behavioral health setting.

This workshop will be an engaging and interactive session examining the impact and effects that inter-generational trauma has had on our African American clients and the larger Black community. The course will help behavioral health providers with assessing and treatment planning for the African American client, and will encourage providers to take a critical look at the way in which our systems and agencies have treated African Americans when it comes to the inter-generational trauma they have experienced. The training will provide concepts in addressing African American trauma in a culturally specific framework. You will leave with a broader understanding of the impact of oppression, displacement, slavery, and genocide on Black communities today.

This course is intended for people working in the mental health and addiction fields.
