The ASAM Criteria are the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for assessment, service planning, placement, continued stay and discharge of patients with addictive disorders. The current edition was released in October 2013. This presentation will review the underlying concepts of the ASAM Criteria and focus on skill building to implement concepts of continuum of care, levels of care, clinically driven, individualized treatment in behavioral and general health. Reference will be made to application of The ASAM Criteria to both adult and adolescent populations.
Both DSM-5 and The ASAM Criteria – Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions have included Gambling Disorder in the latest editions published in 2013. This presentation will also indicate how The ASAM Criteria offers solutions to integrate Gambling Disorder into the full continuum of addiction treatment services.
